This standard
Irish Tension flyer has Louet's new wire sliding guides, so you can easily
fill the bobbin evenly. The flyer has a 13 mm orifice. The flyer front
support, that used to be a brass bearing, has now been modified to a
nylon bearing.
This flyer
is suitable for all Irish tension spinning wheels etc. wheels), with the exception of
the S70, S71 and S90.
For older spinning wheel bobbins with whorls on both
ends (with a groove on both sides) you need the bulky flyer or art yarn
flyer. Or you can switch to the newer 3-speed bobbins.
The orifice of this flyer has been
machined to add a groove where a nylon bearing fits on some wheels. The advantage
is a smoother connection which reduces friction and reduces the intake
speed. Hard or quick intake speed has been a known issue for Louet
IrT wheels. The older brass bearing could be lubricated with vaseline
(not oil) to reduce friction, however, this also attracted dirt and dust
which in turn increased friction. The brass bearing system needed
about 10 hours of spinning to break in with the flyer orifice, after
which, smooth low friction intake could be expected.
The
result of our change to the nylon bearing is that your wheel no longer
needs a break in period. You can expect smooth, low friction spinning
from the beginning.
