Hand Dyed Cormo: Mountain Blue Bird, 4 oz braid

Hand Dyed Cormo: Mountain Blue Bird, 4 oz braid

This is 4 ounces of Montana-raised and dyed cormo wool in the Mountain Blue Bird colorway. Cormo wool is a finer wool that is next-to-the-skin soft.

Combed Top is a delightful preparation to spin. It is created by passing fibers through combs, aligning the fibers and removing all short fibers, second cuts and vegetable matter. The result is a smooth even preparation that allows you to spin an even yarn.

It has been carefully hand-dyed to maintain its evenness and softness and to prevent any felting. As with any dyed unspun fiber preparation, the fibers are compacted in the preparation and dyeing process. Gently open (or pre-draft) the top before you spin. One way to do this is to grab the top with both hands about 6” apart and give a gentle sharp tug - but don't pull so far you 'break' its rope-like shape. You will see the top open up, and become ready to spin. You can also split the top in half or thirds lengthwise (before or after pre-drafting).

The Mountain Blue Bird colorway – The rich blues in this fiber are created by layering various shades and hues of blue, and adding a touch of turquoise. The overall effect reminds one of the Mountain Bluebird. On my computer, the colors in the image are close to the colors in the fiber, but your computer may show them differently. Also... colors between dye batches will vary somewhat.

Hand wash gently all yarn and garments made from the dyed fiber in cold water with a splash of vinegar.
