HANDSPINNING: Advanced Techniques with Mabel Ross. After the basics...this! lots of techniques. In this course it is assumed that you already know the basics of how to spin a yarn on a spinning wheel. You will learn how to prepare and spin different lengths of fibers to make worsted and woolen yarns for weaving or knitting, using shortdraw and traditional longdraw techniques. You will also learn how to make a plied yarn of any exact thickness with just the right amount of twist, for various purposes, and how to repeat it exactly at any time. And besides, you will also learn to spin a wide range of yarns varying from very thick to soft spun knitting yarns to fine gossamer weight. PREREQUISITES: In this workshop video it is assumed that you already know the basics of how to spin a yarn on a spinning wheel. It is not necessary to be a very accomplished spinner before studying this course since the techniques demonstrated will assist you to become one. MATERIALS NEEDED: A spinning wheel with three extra bobbins and a lazy kate, a metal dog comb and/or a flick card, a pair of handcards and fleece both long- and short-stapled.
