1996. Sweden. Swedish - born Lena Rahoult has worked with textiles in various ways. This exhibition focuses on the artist's own collection of traditional and older mattress weave, called 'bolster' ware in Swedish. A bolster is a larger pillow or cushion filled with feathers, down, cloth, straw, or hay, and is used as a mattress or pillow for people to recline on. The bolsters are all patterened in stripes of various dimensions and colors. This is a contemporary rediscovery of traditional and extremely sturdy textiles. Lena Rahoult's text provides some insight into her feelings about stripes, the rhythm of stripes, the color and harmony in striped patterns, and how she now uses computer- generated striped patterns.
